How Important is Soccer in Brazil?

Soccer is a way of Life!

Soccer is a way of Life!

Soccer is not only the most popular sport in Brazil; it is a way of life. The ball is always moving. It moves on grass and on sand, on concrete and on cobblestone. Sometimes, during the rainy season, it even moves on water.

Most Brazilian children lack education, development opportunities and inner sense of empowerment to overcome their every day challenges. The popular “Pick-Up soccer” (known in Portuguese as “pelada”) still remains a form of escape. It feeds the dream of a poverty-stricken young boy’s finding fame and fortune after being discovered in a Brazilian slum.

Brazil passion for soccer doesn’t come as a surprise because it holds a record number of victories in the FIFA World Cup. There are over 10,000 Brazilian players all over the world, testament to the fact that Brazil is filled with millions of soccer dreamers.

Part of soccer’s popularity is that it transcends culture and social-economic class. Soccer has also gained significant social responsibility by offering kids a safe path off the streets in poor communities, which are often controlled by drug traffickers.

Most kids in the Brazilian slums and other poor communities learn to play barefoot on dirt fields because their families lack resources for shoes and balls. Neymar, Fred and Hulk, the top players on the 2014 Brazil’s World Cup team, all learned the game playing barefoot in the streets. So did Romario, Ronaldo and Rivaldo, who won four World Cups among them.

Please help us ensure that programs we work so hard to establish today will see our “soccer dreamers” through to a better tomorrow. Soccer is one of the essentials for Brazilian children´s health and welfare. We want to remove boys and girls off the streets, giving them education while also feeding their appetite for soccer.

We will support talented Brazilian boys and girls who are in need of basic resources to develop themselves physically and mentally through soccer practice. We will not distribute cash. Your donation will be used towards the purchase and distribution of new cleats, soccer balls, uniforms, goal posts and the improvement of soccer fields in poor communities in Brazil. In return, such local communities will commit to education of these boys and girls.
